I never update this, do I?

Long story short, we had some issues recently with hardware failing. Luckily, SOMEONE had backups lying around and we got it back up and running in virtual environment. Unfortunately, that system also choked itself out - I blame the shoddy desktop machine I installed it on. (I was in a hurry, okay???) Given that all of my sites were down, I started digging through my pile of machines in the garage. The ones that I told my girlfriend, "No, babe...don't toss those. I might need them someday." See? I was right. Right now, it appears that we are on a semi-stable platform, hardware-wise. I'm watching it like a hawk and have a few monitoring tools running to keep me appraised of its current status. Some of you may have noticed that there is a new streaming webcam feature. It's just a stupid gimmick at this point, and I'm currently sucking up to you guys a little for my recent failures. :) All that being said, there are still a couple more issues coming up in the next couple of days, but these are PLANNED. First off, we are getting the line to the house upgraded, so on Monday night, March 4th, there will be a window of about 4 hours (give or take) where the site will be offline. I will also be moving the server to it's new permanent-ish location at my desk. I don't expect a whole lot of issues, short of getting the new router configured for port forwarding and maybe updating some IP addresses internally. It should be fairly straight-forward. (Knock on wood, if you feel so inclined...) If everything goes as planned, we'll be back online late Monday night/early Tuesday morning. Thanks again for all of your continued patience. It gets better.

We're baaaaack...

For those of you that are following this blog, but not necessarily our Twitter page, Facebook page, or other form of online presence that we have tried to maintain over the years...let me just say that we are back. www.lowbrow.org

Life and stuff.

Yeah, I know, I keep promising things and never following through on them. Sue me.

There's been a lot of crap going on in my life that has prevented me from getting back on task with this. For that, I apologize.

Little by little, I have started working on making good on my promise - juggling personal pursuits with business goals never seems to work out.

That being said, I have found that I work better when a deadline is looming over me. So for the sake of the site, and the 'Browers, I am hereby declaring an official re-launch date of June 1, 2010. If we have to just throw up an empty database with a FrontPage generated interface, so be it.

Come hell or high water, we will be back. :)

Vaya con dios, my friend.

Matt,

You have always been a good friend. We haven't always seen eye to eye, and sometimes we just stopped talking altogether, but I have always considered you a friend.

I sincerely hope you get better, but if you don't just know this; you will be missed.

Given the way life is now, it's doubtful that I will have the opportunity to visit you before you go, and even less likely that I will make it out for any ceremonies. It's probably just as well, though. I prefer to remember you as the hardass that you were, not laid up in a bed somewhere waiting to die.

I know posting to a blog may seem trivial, but when you consider how much time I've had lately to actually update much of anything, you'll see that this is something important to me.

Thank you for all the advice you've given me over the years, thank you for listening to me vent about my failing marriage, and thank you for joining me in giving Steve such a hard time over the years.

These are the memories I will carry with me. Thank you for being a part of my life.

Vaya con dios, my friend. I'll see you on the other side.

Just an update...

The old data is intact, we have access to it, but after some discussion we have decided to revamp the site yet AGAIN before re-launch.

The new default format will do away with the "random" nature of the posts and will utilize a threaded format style. We have also heard from you and listened - there will be a search feature. :)

For now, there won't be much more - the "old" site will still be around, in all of its randomized glory. We would be fools to NOT keep it alive in some fashion.

Future plans include giving you the ability to rate posts (we're not sure if it will be a "thumbs up/down" or numerical rating system yet) and view the most popular/highest voted posts.

Additional future development plans include a section for "Top Posters" for those brave souls who use an email address.

Thanks for your patience, and stay tuned!

Down, but not out...

As many of you may have noticed, Lowbrow.org is down...for now.

Long story short, our previous host has opted to kick us off their server with no notice. Suffice it to say that we are not amused. One would think that a certain amount of professionalism would be in order, but it does not appear that way.

But fear not - all is not lost. We were able to get the site and data files, and are in the process of moving them to a new host. Bear with us during this time...
